Singer B.Amarkhuu sentenced to 2 years

Admin | Published: 2019-11-22

Mongolian pop singer and Buryat national laureate B.Amarkhuu had been arrested on September 19, 2019, outside a hotel parking lot, by drug enforcement agency of Mongolia. This is not the first time he’s been in court room. Prior to this, he’d been at Sukhbaatar district court for alleged beating of journalist Ts.Choijilsuren. However the court dismissed the case.

But this time there was plenty of evidence of his wrongdoing. Police investigation showed he prepared and stored drugs without intention of selling. The court convened on October 29, 2019 sentenced the singer to two years in minimum security prison. Social media of Mongolia paid close attention to this case. While many people sympathized with him, people said he got light sentence. And many people wished him to come back clean.

If you haven’t listened to his songs, well here it is.

Update:

Appelate court of Ulaanbaatar convened on October 29, 2019, and decided upon release of B.Amarkhuu. Turned the case back to the investigation citing several technical errors in the investigation documents. After the court decision, B.Amarkhuu was released from the detention center on bail.
